Questions:

I have some additional questions regarding the installation of bolts.

  • It is suggested or necessary additional lubrication of the Bolts installed on the Inserts? Or maybe only when removing a bolt and installing again on the insert? If this is the case what would be the type of lube to be used.
  • Is there a suggested tightening Torque for the M3 bolts or a tadard application of 0.8Nm should be enough?
  • What is the minimum loosening torque which applies on the Locking type of inserts For M3 bolts?

Answers:

The locking Clinserts are delivered with a dry film lubrification. This means that this will enhance the installation, however if you do a second bolt entry I would wax them.

I have though no recommendation of what you can use.

The tightening torque is not set, you can follow the typical curves of stainless steel polished fasteners

I would believe this is standard 1Nm when not lubricated for M3 bolts.

When lubricated it would be 0.9 Nm

Other recommendations against galling of stainless steel

  • Tighten the fastener with low tours per minute and without interruptions
  • Apply only a light pressure

An important thing though, you’re using a locking insert, which means you’ll need some extra torque, I would guess you will need to go up to 1.5Nm

I do not have these values though.

The Loosening torque will be dependent if it’s the first time that you unloosen or if it’s the 5th time.

Reason: the locking principle is with a deformed part of the material in the insert, this is a “semi”-controlled value, so will not be 100% the same on every locking insert.

This principle will cut also into the material of the bolt, and might damage the bolt, which creates extra torque required to unloosen.
